Reflections of An Ex-Gymnast

I have been doing gymnastics for 15 years. Since I was 3, I was working out almost every day, perfecting my skills. I identified as an athlete my whole life. My blistered and callused hands were my identity. My huge arm and leg muscles and tiny waist (pants never fit me, my 6-pack, the constant cracking of my joints were normal for me. I had practice after school, and my Saturday mornings were spent in my pajamas at the gym. Chalk was a separate food group, and the leotard lines on my shoulders would never fade.

I could chuck a backtuck with my eyes closed - easily, and I would sleep in the splits - comfortably. I was known as the daring one on my team. I had the hardest skills of the group, and I would not be scared of anything. What went wrong? Sometime in my freshman year of high school, I started hating my gymnastics life. Practices became too long, the skills too hard, the competitions too scary, the coaches too mean. I stopped going for things. I didn't want to come to practice anymore.

For 3 more years, I resented everything about gymnastics, and I couldn't wait to get out of there. I hated how my muscles would never stop hurting. I hated how cold the gym was in the mornings, and how hot it was in the afternoon. I hated how tight my leotards were, how restrictive the coaches were. I hated how my teammates weren't as close anymore. I hated how disappointing every competition was. I hated how many injuries I got, and I hated how my coaches cast me aside to work with Erin, Vic, and Lacy from Elite. Most of my original group disbanded, and I felt so alone. And the summer before my senior year of high school, I stopped.

I didn't come to practice for a week, and on Friday, showed up to warm up, and told everyone the news. Nobody said anything, and nobody was surprised. They wanted to see me go. They knew it was a long time coming. The people I considered family for 15 years did not want me anymore. But I didn't care. I felt so happy for the first few months. After school, I'd go home. I did not have to worry about anything. I could eat whatever I wanted without worrying about gaining weight before practice. I thought I was happy.

But the for the next 12 months, my problems did not disappear. Quitting gym only gave room for more issues, including those caused by quitting. I gained four pounds every month, and none of my clothes would fit me. Problems came up at school and at home that I could not escape from. I still felt alone and disconnected from everybody else. And most of all - I started missing gymnastics.

I miss it so much now. I'd give anything to put my grips back on, to tumble again. I am not a gymnast anymore. I have no identity. I loved flipping and doing routines and dancing on floor. I regret quitting so much. There is an interesting thing about the word "quit." Gymnasts prefer not to use it. They say "retired," "stopped," "finished." But never "quit". Quitting implies that you gave up halfway. Which I can say, I honestly did. Well, not halfway. I quit after Level 9. But I still quit. I was lazy and weak. I know I could have made it to the finishing point - but I didn't.

It tortures me when I see my old teammates. It tortures me when I see girls younger than me going to Level 10. It tortures me to watch gymnastics videos. My heart breaks as I am writing this. A year ago, I hated when the coaches yelled at me, and wanted nothing more than to get out of the sport. Now, I'd give anything to have them yell at me just one more time.

When I talk to my friends about it, (friends who never did gymnastics), they never understand. They tell me to find another sport. They tell me to go sign up again. I forget sometimes how even the smartest people can be naive about these things. They don't know how our world works. They think it will be fine. But even if I wanted to go back, it wouldn't be the same. My body would be different. My muscles have turned to fat, and my hands have gone soft. The coaches would act differently, and my teammates would not be the same teammates I was friends with. I only have the other girls who quit - but without gymnastics, nothing holds us together anymore. These kinds of bonds, these kinds of skills that the sport gives you cannot be recreated on whim. If you lose it, you lose it forever.

I wish I held on tighter. I wish I could to go back to 3 years ago, when I forgot about the girl who fell in love with the sport. I would remember her, honor her, and tumble once again. I miss gymnastics.

Thoughts on Youtubers' Memoirs

There has been a new trend lately. Writing memoirs. That's the "cool" thing to do by celebrities and YouTubers. I see my friends reading Connor Franta's memboir, Joey Graceffa's book. Elle and Blair Fowler have a book, too! Even Trisha Paytas has a book. Like WHAAATTT??

Ok, don't get me wrong. I love a good memoir, perhaps more than most people. Key emphasis here is on the good. Like "Angela's Ashes" good or "The Glass Castle" (Jeannette Walls. My favorite memoir.) Or the amazing "The Things They Carried". There is also "Revolution is not a Dinner Party" (though technically not a memoir) about the Cultural Revolution in China. Even Lance Armstrong's memoir I can appreciate.

And furthermore, I love Connor Franta and Joey Graceffa and Trisha Paytas. Their videos are hilarious and entertaining, and I am subscribed to all of them.

HOWEVER!!!

When somebody writes a memoir, the content should be dignified. A good memoir shows a true struggle. A struggle of a half-starved and neglected child of criminal parents. A struggle of competing (which is hard enough) while battling a crippling disease! The struggle of war, with your comrades dying in an unknown, God-forsaken land. The memoir teaches about the corners of life we have no idea about. The memoir stirs something inside us and makes us think. We learn from this literature.

What is a twenty-something year old going to teach me? How hard it was to move from the Midwest to LA? Well, news flash for you, buddy: you are not the first one who did it, and you won't be the last. Sure it was rough at times, but we all went through it. That process is called "growing up". The struggle of coming to terms with your sexuality? Alright, that I can kind of understand. However, we do live in a first world nation where in a time when everything, literally everything, is much easier to deal with than ever before. And guess what? Everybody has problems! Conquering your own does not separate you from anyone else. So you expect me to spend money to waste my time reading literally nothing of value? Haha no.

Let's talk about Trisha. She has 3 books out, oh dear lord. She talks about being a stripper in her memoir(s). Like, wow. Way to go! Let's applaud this woman for taking her clothes off! Now, keep in mind, I have nothing against sex workers. You gotta do what you gotta do. I totally understand! But what I refuse to understand is why you write books about it! I can honestly say, that is an insult to literature! What a great thing to leave to the next generations: yeah, strippers write books now.

What I cannot believe is that people are actually taking these books seriously! Come on, these people have practically no experience and no talent in creative writing! Whereas when you mention the name of any other writer, a more talented writer, people draw a blank. Can't you see that what you are reading is bullcrap?! And you spend money on that shit?

Don't you see, these youtubers writing memoirs only want your money. They don't have any fascinating stories to tell! If you believe that they want to get those stories out and want to help people, you are stupid. Because if they really want to inspire us and share their stories, they would make a video. Which we could watch for free. Or put their book out for free. But they don't do that. Please, if you bought a memoir of theirs, please don't read it. Return it as soon as you can. Because you will literally waste your time and money with what they wrote. It is not worthy of you. I bet you could write a better memoir than they could. (But please use your second judgement if you actually took that idea seriously.)

Wacko Dream

I just had an epic dream and I needed to write it down somewhere, so I thought here.

In my dream, I just graduated from high school, and my school and my ex boyfriend's school decided to throw a graduation party together, combining the classes. Before going to the party, my ex was bothering me on Facebook. Now, the party was held at this village looking place that had a church, a fountain, a dance floor, long banquet tables with white table cloths and flowers on them, as well as two statues. One statue was a woman with dark hair and a red, sparkly dress (looked a lot like Jessica Rabbit's dress). The other statue was a man dressed in plain black robes. (Kinda looked like a cross between Darth Vader and a nun.) We knew in the dream that the lady statue represented fun, dance, love. The man represented academics, rules, and hard work. (Also notable that red and black were my school's colors.) Whenever the statues would have sunlight hit them, they would cast these "shadows" and become animated and would be able to move and speak. The shadow the lady statue casted was tinted gold with red polka dots. The shadow the black statue casted was grey with black vertical lines. We were told that whenever the sunlight hit the statues and they would cast these glows and become alive, that meant that God's presence was with us. I was standing next to the red lady statue when gold sunlight was shining on her back and she cast her glowing shadow on these girls in white dresses who were taking a picture in front of the fountain. She looked at me, and smiled. And so, I was right next to God as He was blessing these girls. I ended up walking up a hill overlooking the party. The statue of the man in black robes was standing on top of this hill, watching me as I climbed. He was casting his shadow, too. He was casting it on me. When I walked up to the top, I stood next to him, walked passed him, and then he exclaimed to all the students below "The seventh kingdom has come." And he crowned me as a representative of God, saying that His presence would now be known through me. After that, all the students sat down for dinner, and I was happy that I could avoid my ex boyfriend. I avoided my ex on the dance floor, too. Suddenly, we heard a voice say something along the lines of, "Not so fast. Nothing came yet!" And suddenly, three or four men in camouflage uniforms and some caps of either a red or a blue color rushed at us with weapons aiming right at us. We were ushered into the church and were told to pray. If the seventh kingdom really had come, someone would be able to answer our prayers and save us. Otherwise, we would be shot at, and only the smart use of the person in front of us as a shield could save us. We prayed, we prayed, and we prayed. Nothing happened. Until the door opened right behind me, and another man in camouflage with a weapon came in. As the door was closing behind him, I hid behind this man's back, and discreetly scampered through this open door. As soon as I was out, I ran as fast as I could, shouting "call 911" to random people passing by. As soon as I got to a phone, I called the police, and a SWAT team appeared, and started shooting at the men in camouflage, and with the help of a ballistic shield, I was able to get everyone out of the church and to safety. Later, both statues stood next to me as I stood on a pedestal, and people were cheering, and I was proclaimed as channeling God's presence. And the last thought in my head before I woke up was "I really hope my ex doesn't notice me."

Everything is going against us. Hell, he does not even know that someone like me is existing. His love is for someone else. Someone better. But how could something be so wrong when I know it is right? We practically belong together. Made for each other. Soul mates. If only he could see that.

When Claudius is Right

How thick can they get? When someone tells you to stop, you stop! I don't want to hear any of your bullshit! All you do is hurt me. God I wish it all would stop.

"When sorrows come, they come not single spies, But in battalions." (Hamlet, Act IV.) Amen to that. Ain't that the truth?

Forbidden Fantasies

It was only a dream. But it felt so real! I wish it was. It was a dream of prom night continuing, and Jordan D.* was telling me to sneak out of the house to hang out with him. We walked in the night, and cuddled and looked out at the stars. Then, we went back to prom and danced and talked. I kept on asking him, "But aren't you dating Briana?" But he never replied. Right when we were about to kiss, I woke up.

I couldn't believe it wasn't real. I could feel the wind blowing against me, and the warmth of his body as it was pressing against me. The feeling of his arm around me, holding tight. The way his eyes could pierce in to you. Everything felt so much more than a dream. The one time I truly felt like I had a Cinderella moment - it was all in my head.

I know we'd be so good together. It can't be just nothing. But he and I come from different crowds. I don't think he would accept me. Maybe if he breaks up with his girlfriend would he ever even look at me in real life. But I know he definitely would never like me, as he probably nearly hates me by now. All that remains is a forbidden fantasy.

*name has been changed.

The Door is Firmly Locked

I wish I could write through it all. The words would be streaming out, and my pain would be bleeding through them. I wish I could put it all there. Let it out. But these blocks are thwarting expression. I can't put it into words. It is indescribable. All I can do is draw a blank towards the outside, with the things I hold back slowly creeping and hurting me inside.

Inside My Thoughts

When I am inside my brain, I am in a scary place. Any distraction keeps the darkness at bay. As reality rushes back to me, thought after thought washes over. Each thought is worse than the one before, and any glimmer of hope is quickly drowned by the overwhelming reality. I look at others, and wonder, and sink deeper and deeper into the inner chasm.

Lungs fill up with thick and tangible darkness. I can feel it. I feel it rise from the innermost pits of hell. I feel it working it's way through my limbs. It encircles every nerve. As if by command, it clenches. The tentacles tighten around my neck. Something stops my heart from beating. Brain is racing but frozen at the same time. The cold works its way in. The end is near. I am alone.

Behind Closed Doors

Shut up! Just shut up! Get out!Get out of my head! Get out of there!

They have no idea what they are talking about. They poke their noses into everything, thinking they know it all. But do they really? They throw accusations at me, believing they are omniscient beings standing in front of a failure, a disappointment.

How do they know what the protagonists don't tell them? How can they know about the drama that has been unfolding these past four years? How can they know anything about what goes on behind closed doors?

What goes on behind closed doors.

Nobody can tell. Nobody knows the real truth. Everybody assumes they know it. They think it is explainable in a single word. They do not and will not dig deep to find the truth. They will cling on to what is comfortable. And then the blame falls on me. Of course it does. Who else could be at fault?

I am not perfect, nor do I claim to be. I try hard, but I still mess up. But someday, they'll see the truth. They will realize exactly how wrong they were, and how much they hurt me. They will see how twisted the words of the past were.

But it will be too late. I'll be gone, and the damage has been done. The accusations will stay. Then they will realize, that nobody knows what truly happens behind closed doors.

What happens behind closed doors.

Or possibly, they'll never know. I'll be left with it all. The hurt, the blame. In the words of another, "We'll say goodbye. We'll say that you didn't try..." And they will never know, what really took place, all those years ago, behind closed doors.

It all took place behind closed doors.

They Don't Need to Know

Person 1: "Hi, how are you?"
Person 2: "Good! How are you?"

Person 1: "I'm good, thanks!"

But are we really? Whenever I get that question asked, I smile through it. And lie. Because no. I am not doing well. I am not ok, like I want everybody else to believe. I want people to think I have my shit together, when in reality, I shattered into pieces a long time ago.

If somebody remembers me falling apart, they expect me to pick myself up. They think I already have. But they do not know that every time I try to get myself back together, it ends up backfiring, and I am left empty, numb, and confused. But they don't need to know that.

Asking for help is so difficult. Receiving it is even harder. All that is left is a fake smile, fake laugh, fake confidence that masks the silent scream inside. I am broken. I am near rock bottom.

But they do not need to know that.

KMART!!! =(

The big sign with the letter K, recognized anywhere. The aisles upon aisles of random merchandise. The talks of the blue light special going around. The place where my pajamas come from. Kmart. I will miss you. Why do you have to go? The store near me stood strong, toughing everything out, but now, it too has fallen. Now it is just an empty warehouse with nonreturnable memories.

I remember running through the aisles, peaking in between and under shelves. The first time I tried on a bra. When I got a pair of "winter" pajamas. Blue pants and a sweater with two cats on it. The cats were wearing crowns and sitting on a red, plush pillow. Wwwhhhyyyyy Kmart? Whyyyyy? Now, these memories are just that. Only memories. Of one of the awesomest stores. They will never be recreated. They are all gone. And I never even had closure!

Kmart had such low prices. Kmart had everything that you could think of owning. Why did it have to be crushed? It has been around for decades. Whereas the new and "hip" stores - only a couple of years. Why does the tried and true have to substitute new rubbish junk? Why can't shoppers see the beckoning and holy light of the big K?

Kmart, I will miss you so much. I wish you could come back. I wish I could still walk into your store, browse the aisles. If you ever do come back, I promise to never window shop from you ever again. I will ALWAYS buy something..... But these are only speculations. I miss you, Kmart. It is too hard to say good bye!

WoW Talk: Warlords of Draenor Leveling to 90

Hi interweb! How are you doing? I'm doing great! (See how I imitated Panser from the YouTube? That is because we are talking about World of Warcraft today!)

So the new expansion, Warlords of Draenor, is coming out on November 13th. Who is excited? I am excited! Are you? So apparently, it comes with great perks! I am not going to go into all the details, so I'm going to leave that to the "professionals"LOL. Anyway, here are some links for more information on the what? when? where? how? of WoD:
TradeChat's video on general WoD facts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmQbqkiAYSs
TradeChat's video on WoD level 90 boost: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7UxnGHshCI
An Explanation of the Boost from Gamestop: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/you-can-now-pay-60-for-a-level-90-world-of-warcraft-character/1100-6418216/

But what I want to address is the leveling. So, when you get WoD, you have a level boost. You can automatically just level a character from level 1 to level 90. Now, this is a little bit controversial among the gaming community.

On one hand, a new player can really see what the game is all about, get to socialize with more experienced players, and learn the ropes of their character. The abilities, the strengths and weaknesses, the lore, and basic stuff like that. They can explore their toons, and they can explore the game with the "cool crowd." I know I am always so happy and glad whenever I receive advice from more experienced players. And it generally can open a whole world for new people in a more convenient way. But of course, it comes with a cost. Of money, so Blizzard claims it is compensated. But it is an opportunity to see what it is like, and have other characters work up to that. So you are playing two games at once, if you are leveling other characters. You have the leveling game, and the actual game game.

But on the other hand, you just pay for an easy way out. Many older gamers have been around since the very first expansions, and they have worked at their characters to get them where they are today. Just taking the easy way out, instead of learning, questing, dungeoning, grinding. You could say that it just takes a big portion away from the game, and noobs will be noobing around in places of experienced players. These players worked at their characters. It took time. And in their eyes, if it could be as easy to level as paying up, then.... what is the point? What was all of that worth, then? It seriously looks like Blizzard is being a sellout here, just grabbing money wherever they can. Ripping off players, getting more greedy with every year. Many feel that the game is going bad, taking turns in the wrong directions.

And just for the record: I am in no way a pro at any of this. I am a noob at World of Warcraft. I admit it. I know only the tip of the Warcraft world and what it has to offer. There. I said it, so my standing is pretty clear. I do have to agree that it does make leveling very easy, and it is unfair to the older players. Even though if given the chance, I would boost to 90. Just because noob. Noobishness. So irony and hypocrisy rolled into one.

Complete List of YouTube Channels That Uploaded Leda's Videos

As stated before, Leda, or HaiLedaBear did stop making YouTube videos. Maybe she will come back. Fingers crossed that she will when she is happier and stronger. But then again, she might not. But she feels that she should get back in touch with her inner self, so she should do that, then. I wish her all the best. But there are still some videos out there for us, LOYAL subscribers to watch and reminisce on. Here are some channels that upload some of her more recent videos AS WELL as her old vidiess :))) (from her raver phase!) So here is a list of channels where you can see her videos! So take advantage of these channels and videos while you can!

Keep reading for a link to RARE SEEN footage of Leda! Like really rare!

1Kazkraze
Diana Violetdoll
ILuffLeda :)
LedaCandy
Leda Monster Bunny Videos
Leda Muir
MacyDino
MacyGoesRAWR
OldLedaPhotosAndVids
Tara Knight

MacyDino and MacyGoesRAWR are two channels managed by the same person. In my opinion, she is THE #1 source of old Leda videos just because she uploaded so many of them, and uploaded Leda's Keeks as well. She has the most extensive collection so far, as far as I know. So check her out most of all!

I know there are more users who uploaded Leda Muir's videos, but even though this is titled the "complete list," there are standards for making it on this list. These channels posted more or less a good amount of videos. Either that or they posted RARE footage, for which they are automatically on this list, and should be known. Yes there are more videos of Leda's photos, but those can be looked up easily, and they are not channels that are explicitly devoted to Leda.

This interview with Leda is also hilarious, and is more footage of her that would be of interest to her viewers: Bryan Stars. This is from her later times.

This interview, at VidbCon. LITTLE SEEN FOOTAGE.  (click here for interview)

This interview is with her ex-boyfriend Matt, but is also worth watching: Rock Forever Magazine.

And of course, Leda's chat with TradeChat: Girl-On-Girl.

Luvin Britney and Other Ishness

I love 90s and early 00s Britney Spears. I do. Even though nowadays people seriously look down on her, and others adore her now. Idk, I feel like the now Britney is eh. But seriously, I love her young teenage self. (Bree, do you even know what you sound like? Yup. I do. Eh, whatever.) And listening to her dropping hints EVERYWHERE and even coming out with a song about it, the whole crisis should have been seen coming. But I'm not going to get into that. Yuck yuck yuck. (Unless it was a conspiracy: the meltdown was planned by her managers and producers waaaay in advance in order to keep the media's eye on her as she goes bonk, and then builds up again, which does sound actually VERY realistic. Hmmmmm.)

Anyway, her dancing and her voice in Drive Me Crazy just aaaaah. Amazing. And there is Sabrina, the teenage witch in the video! But her live performance in Hawaii waaaay back when, yeah. I keep watching that over and over and over again. And I looove that dancer in the blue tank top with the shell necklace. Hehe. The one that stands right next to her. Didn't he appear in the Baby One More Time music video, too? Idk. Wish I knew his name. Back to the actual dancing, she is and was definitely a performer. The energy in every song, every dance, every video is contagious. Her dancers' energy also just soaks through, and energy EVERYWHERE. So contagious. It drives me crazy. Whenever anybody is with her, they loose their minds, and it is toxic. Yup, references. Three, actually. Oops, I did it again. :( :) :3

Britney sure knows and always knew how to dance. I wish I had teenager Britney's moves. Man, I am nostalgic now for a decade I barely even lived in. Meh. Oh well.

I feel like the pop culture of one decade builds off the previous one. (Le, duh. Hello Captain Obvious) But when one misses exposure to the pop culture in one's decade of birth, (like sooomebody here did), they are doomed growing up in the next decade simply because they are out of the loop. But it is true, the 00s were a weird decade, actually. Just looking back. They were just like: "Uuuh well there were the 60s and the 70s and the 80s and the 90s... now what do we do? let's just go with it and... try to be not as awkward as.... actually eff it." Wacko.

Update: I actually DID find out his name: TJ Espinoza. Yup. Thank you Britney tour. But there is A LOT of scoop on him, actually. And stuff going around. MAN he was an amazing dancer with a beautiful face. :O

Scatterbrained Post on Lord of the Rings, and... Something

Soo stuff is happening, needless to say. Ok. So, like every normal person (oh yeah totally) I have been looking for jewelry I would LOVE to have from movies. *cough cough LotR cough cough*. And I did find a few steals that sound very awesome.

Like this replica of Arwen's necklace from Ultimate Movie Costumes

Or the One Ring from Bonanza

Anyway, I am just in a very shopping mood right now.

My favorite character from Lord of the Rings is Smeagol/Gollum. Just saying. The author portrays the guy's tragic misery so well. And just by mere circumstances Smeagol turned into Gollum. If Frodo had not had Gandalf or Sam or Aragorn, he would have totally become Gollum as well. Gollum carried out what Frodo did not do: destroy the ring. Even evil spawns good, and it was really sad for me when Smeagol died. At least his tragic outcasted and abused life ended the pain for him.

I have been watching a lot of Sabrina The Teenage Witch lately.

Ok, this is just too scatterbrained. Here's a picture of a cat. The cat Salem from aforementioned show. Enjoy.

Noob at Playing Games but Still Ranting Meh

Age of Conan did not work for me. At all. I thought "oh yeah, free! I like!" That thing took 20 hours to download. ("ok. big game. I understand. can't wait to play it.") Made 5000 ads pop up after the download was complete. ("ok. they need to get their money from somewhere. I'm a little annoyed, but whatever.") When launched and played, it lags. Like, some bandit runs and starts attacking my character, and when she tries to defend herself, the combos only happen 5 minutes later. 2 seconds in, and I am dead. ("ok, maybe a glitch. here, I'll just restart it.") BOOM. Computer out of storage. ("ok, ok. I'll just delete everything, run disc cleanup, and download again.") 20 more hours. When the game starts running, I see polka dots, stripes, and random letters where there should have been a character. Or a leaf. Or something! ("but everybody talks about how great it is! Must be my computer.") Redownloads, starts game, computer crashes. OK SCREW THIS I GAVE IT ENOUGH CHANCES. Plays WoW. Game runs perfectly, computer doesn't crash. No ads. Too bad my wow addiction is costly hehe.

But in actuality, I am a very low level player in World of Warcraft. My main is 25, I want to say. Funny because all my other toons are druids. I use one druid specifically to play with my friend, and that is a level 15, I think. I have not played in a while :( My main is a Tauren Warrior, but I actually like playing Tauren Druid more. The druid can attack from afar, and can run faster in cat form, and use stealth. So, in the words of Panser, "Druids are bamfs." And when I am in a battleground, druid is easier to play, because I can attack from afar without being seen. I usually end up guarding the flag in stealth mode, but I have a lot to improve on. But warriors are fun, too. Idk, I got my warrior farther than any other toon, so I might as well keep leveling him. I also have a night elf druid that I completely abandoned. Oops, sorry. My bad. :/ :( :P :3

Stuff Happens... :P :/ :3

So there are people who are working on sending videos and messages for Leda. I hope everything will work out, because Leda definitely played no small role in many of our internet lives. Hypocritical, yes, but I just GOTTA say. I loved when Leda wore kandi and was so bright and colorful. She would cheer up my day. But that's beside the point.

There are also some YouTube channels that have some of Leda's videos. I probably talked about some earlier, but I found more. Ok MacyDino, MacyGoesRawr, LedaBear, 1Kazkraze, Joe Lando, Leda Muir (not actually REAL Leda, but a fan channel) on YouTube have some of her videos. Ok.

Now stuff happens. And stuff will happen. Sorry. And trying to come up with Halloween costume ideas, and doing school work. Ok byeee!

Small Rant on Lord of the Rings Books vs Movies

So, with the Hobbit movie coming out in December, (Read about it here!) I decided to do a little brush-up on my Tolkien. After reading the books, I watched the movies, even the Lord of the Rings ones (leh, duh. do you REALLY use THAT as an excuse to watch them? Seriously). Now, these movies irk many who've actually read the books. And yes, naturally, the movies irk me just a little bit.
First off, though, I must say how much I am obsessing over Aragorn and Legolas. Just crikey! They are beautiful creatures that do beautiful things! Though my favorite character overall, (book-wise) is Smeagol, I do love me some Strider and Greenleaf in the movies.

Speaking of Smeagol, Tolkien depicted him in the books as a creature fighting the ring, and fighting himself, but succumbing to the evil power greater than him. He was weak to start off with, and hence, easy prey. Because of that, he was a miserable outcast that could never REALLY go back to how he was before. The ring cut too deep into him, and though he still had goodness deep down, it was faltering even as he tried to strengthen it. The movie only portrayed about 42% of the complexity of Gollum's and Smeagol's character. Though I understand, this sort of moral ambiguity is EXTREMELY difficult to capture, I still wish it was better... somehow. I don't know. The book Gollum was better for sure.

And what was up with those added Arwen-Aragorn scenes? Yes, there was a love triangle in the books. But the books NEVER mentioned ANYTHING of their children, Arwen's vision of the future, Elrond not supporting their love, or any "elf heals human through a fancy hallucination when the said human is on the brink of death after a battle that never took place in the book." Seriously, it never happened. That is called fanfiction.

And what about Faramir? I could honestly go on a WHOLE RANT on how Peter Jackson did not show Faramir's character AT ALL, and how that really affected the plot. But, too bad there already are threads about that, so I'm just going to cover the basic fact, and then link some threads for you to check out. FARAMIR NEVER WANTED THE DAMN RING IN THE FIRST PLACE! He would not have taken it ever, because he knew that he would not resist the ring's power. He was not like Boromir at all, and he would not have even come close to repeating Boromir's mistake. He did not take Frodo and Sam anywhere out of the hideout cave, much less to Isengard to give the ring as a present for his father. Nope. No! He was gentle and kind to Frodo and Sam, and to Gollum once he scurried into the pond to catch fish. In the movie, he was harsh with Frodo and Sam, and when Gollum was brought in, his men repeatedly hurt Smeagol with physical violence and harsh words. That went against the very nature of the men of Gondor! Like whaaaa? And on the final note, when Faramir released Sam and Frodo, he was told that he would be executed for releasing prisoners.... He was never killed. Peter Jackson made that whole part up, and did not even have the consistency to go through with it! Like, no! PJ, you best get your ish together for dat Hobbit movie! :3

But even though his movies are flawed, I am still SOO SUPER DUPER EXCITED FOR THE BATTLE OF FIVE ARMIES! XD

Link for interesting Faramir thread is here :3

Peace out XD

Thoughts on YouTube & Ze Dead Stuffs

I wrote only about YouTube so far. Hehe guess where I spend most of my time, huh? Anyway, this blog really is on my opinion, and because of past events, yeah heh, it's there. So yeah, my thoughts on YouTube, just in general.

YouTube has really grown in such a short time. In 2000, Google bought a website practically nobody ever heard of. In that relatively short time, it EXPLODED. Look at YouTube today. So many different people, so many different channels, so many videos. But is it really for the better?

You could literally be lost among the traffic on YouTube. It will swallow you up. And if not, if you stay afloat, the people will roast you alive. When I first started using the internet in elementary and middle school, the communities were rather small, and people were given support. It was a positive vibe, and it rarely got out of hand. You had pretty awesome, genuine YouTubers who kept it REAL. Now, not so much. Sure, there are some oldie but goodies that stay true to themselves, but those are rare and scattered. Now, almost everybody is some kind of vlogger.

Take the Beauty Guru community, for example. Back in the day, those girls gave actual tutorials. They were actually helping, and that was why viewers kept coming back. Nowadays, you see a makeup tutorial for practically EVERYTHING. Who needs that much makeup tutorials for the SAME EXACT smoky eye? The older beauty gurus, running out of material, decide to review and critique and advertise products. Make a 7 minute video about 1 product. *cough cough juicystar07 cough cough allthatglitters21 cough cough michellephan cough cough ilikeweylie cough* They became sellouts. Even Queen Beeauty, THE guru of her time, left because of that very reason.

YouTubers now get so much hate. Queen Beeauty did. TradeChat does. Jlovesmac1 does. Leda did. The YouTube community is just filling with more and more negativity. Yeah, haters gonna hate, but today there is 10x the many haters of 4-6 years ago. People were more supportive and positive. Back then, somebody was MORE likely to exit out of a video than troll and offend in the comments. Back then, only responsible individuals had access to the internet. Now, everybody, sane, insane, troll, serious, hater, fan can comment like no tomorrow.

YouTube also used to be so much more about individuals just filming funny or otherwise entertaining stuff. When it literally was "Broadcast YOURSELF." Now, companies can make accounts and advertise. Already famous people can just keep their fame going. YouTube was more about the YOU back then, more so than now. You could even interact with people more, back then. You could actually give stars, rather than just a thumbs up or down. You could look in the sidebar, rather than the bottom bar. So much more convenient. You used to message over YouTube. And whatever happened to actually NAMING your channel some crazy name, instead of just putting your Google+ name? Seriously. The whole thing was just smaller, more individualized.

Also, YouTube used to be more diverse and unique. When before, people who made videos were fun but DIFFERENT people. Nobody heard of YouTube yet, so only the "antisocial" people (if you can call them that, but I personally prefer unique) made videos to put on the internet. Nowadays, any plain ole Joe can put out videos that have nothing special about them, content wise.

So YouTube definitely changed, but imo for the worse. I thought about making videos, but now, I really don't know. I don't really want to become part of that. I guess I sound like such a hipster, but I will be looking for something less mainstream.
